Can art as meditation really help?

At Mindful Creative Muse™, we offer simple mindful art activities for self-care. Similar to meditation with a creative twist! This mindful approach to creativity can help you create with more ease and less stress. Plus, our writing prompts (and unique approach to making meaning of your marks) also help with personal growth and transformation. Whether you're an experienced artist or a beginner, we have something for you and your creative practice.

a new approach to creativity

here are the basic principles of mindful art:

  1. Mindful Art activities and therapeutic art focus on the creative process (not the final product).

  2. The invitation in Mindful Art is to make marks in a non-judgmental way allowing us to “collaborate with chance” and embrace how our creative impulses unfold.

  3. Mindful Art and slow drawing often induce a Flow State and you are encouraged to notice your breath, thoughts, sensations, emotions, etc while making art.

  4. Mindful Art is a creative form of meditation. Whether you’re an experienced artist, meditator, or have no previous experience this practice is for you!

  5. Many people find Mindful Art activities more accessible than sitting on a cushion trying to tame our meandering thoughts through more traditional styles of meditation.

  6. The great news is there's no wrong way to do Mindful Art; simply show up and allow yourself to be curious about your process.

  7. A surprising bonus is that we often end up improving our art-making skills, through practice, as we focus on the process with non-judgment. A win-win!

  8. Mindful Art is not Art Therapy. For additional support, you may want to work with a Therapist.
